Deputies responded to a drowning at on the beach near 12935 Gulf Lane in Madeira Beach at approximately 2:48 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2014.
According to deputies,69-year-old Kathleen Marie Shortill was in the water on the beach when her husband noticed she was unresponsive. Bystanders in the area assisted in pulling Shortill from the water, began CPR and called 9-1-1.
EMS and Deputies arrived on scene and Shortill was transported to a local hospital via ambulance where she later died.
Deputies say the drowning appears to be accidental and it is unknown at this time if it is health related.
The investigation continues.
