24-year-old Joshua Santostefano succumbed to his injuries and died at approximately 7:27 a.m. this morning.

Santostefano was the driver of the 1993 Kawasaki Motorcycle involved in a crash on Friday, August 8, 2014 on Bayshore Blvd. in Safety Harbor.

What:
Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a vehicle vs. motorcycle crash in Safety Harbor.

When:
The crash occurred at about 5:20 p.m. on Friday, August 8, 2014.

Where:
The crash occurred at the intersection of Bayshore Blvd. and 7th Street South in Safety Harbor.

Why/How:
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a vehicle vs. motorcycle crash that occurred at approximately 5:20 p.m. on Friday, August 8, 2014.

According to investigators, the driver of a 2004 Volkswagen Passat was traveling northbound on Bayshore Blvd. as the driver of a 1993 Kawasaki Motorcycle was traveling southbound on Bayshore Blvd. The driver of the Passat, identified as 28-year-old Joshua Miller, slowed down as he approached 7th Street South and began to make a left turn. The Kawasaki then struck the rear passenger side of the Passat.

The driver of the Kawasaki, identified as 24-year-old Joshua Santostefano, was ejected from the motorcycle.

Santostefano was transported to a local hospital via Bayflite with life-threatening injuries. Santostefano was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Miller was not injured during the crash.

It is unknown at this time if alcohol or speed were a factor in the crash.

The southbound lanes of Bayshore Blvd. were shutdown for several hours during the investigation. All southbound lanes have now reopened.

The investigation continues.
