14-230 Deputies Respond To Fire At Dunedin Marina; One Man Injured; Boats Damaged

The Fisher family lived aboard the boat where the fire started. The vessel is a 38 foot Carver- Aft Cabin.

What:
Deputies have responded to a fire at the Dunedin Marina after a boat caught fire. Deputies say one man sustained non-life threatening injuries. Four other vessels were also damaged.

When:
Deputies responded to the fire at about 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2014.

Where:
The fire occurred on the vessel that was docked at the Dunedin Marina located at 51 Main Street in Dunedin.

Why/How:
According to deputies, the fire began on a 38 foot Carver – Aft Cabin boat belonging to the Fisher family.

Deputies say the family was not aboard the boat when the fire began. When they noticed the boat had caught fire, 54-year-old Raymond Fisher attempted to save the pets they had aboard – a bird, a tortoise and two lizards. Deputies say Raymond Fisher reached into the boat to release the bird from its cage and in the process sustained burns on his arm up to his ear. Deputies say Fisher was transported by ambulance to Tampa General for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

No other injuries were reported.

Deputies say four other boats sustained damages as a result of the fire.

The Dunedin Fire Department reponded and is conducting the investigation as to the cause of the fire.
